Sunday night. The sun shone over London. The sky remained clear. I'm watching the musical great Paul Simon perform tracks from his iconic Graceland album and I think to myself, "WOW summer is back!"
Breaking news!
I was back in Hyde Park looking at an incredible sky and watching an amazing concert and I call could think about was the sunny weeks ahead. As I type this, it's Monday night and it's been p*ssing down all day. B**cks.
However, the show must go on which neatly takes me back last Thursday night at London's Hammersmith Apollo, where I was lucky enough to watched rock royalty Queen perform with USA star Adam Lambert. Wow. Now that's what I call a show. I've waited years to watch Brian May and Roger Taylor perform some of the greatest pop and rock tracks of all time, so didn't pass on a chance to go see one of the UK shows. Like most, I grew up in household where Queen played on a loop, providing the soundtrack to my life and resulting in me admiring the vocals and showmanship of the late, great Freddie Mercury. But I've also been an Adam Lambert fan since his first Idol audition and was lucky to have met and interviewed him for Capital back in 2010, which is where I realised that he's a top bloke too. Or 'dude' depending on your location. I've luckily met and interviewed Brian and Roger a few times and was there in Belfast, last year, when the idea was hatched to perform these shows after an sensational MTV Europe Music Awards. Now, back to 2012 and in the last few weeks, I've bumped into Adam at several showbiz events but it was nice to finally watch him own a stage and showcase that incredible vocal range. He delivered some of Queen's biggest hits with ease and was able to stamp his own authority on them whilst acknowleging that there's no point in trying to 'out-Freddie Freddie. The Show Must Go On was pure theatre and pathos, The Days of Our Lives got me a bit emosh and watery-eyed and Radio GaGa was a blast. Wow, Adam can sing! And as ever with Queen, the staging and the light show was out of this world. So congrats to Adam and to Queen. My inner rock God was happily unleashed for a few hours and I for one can't wait to see it all again some time soon. Hopefully, they'll release a DVD later in the year and if you get the chance, get a copy of Adam Lambert's new Trespassing album. Great record. Big thanks to Shoshanna and Ryan at Outside Edge for sorting for me too.
'Legend' seems to be the theme of my week. Tonight, I'm off to see Madonna perform at Hyde Park. OMG, I can't imagine Madge in the rain and mud so sing 'Like a Prayer' and hope the sun is a shining. I've seen Madge live 6 times now so I'm hoping this MDNA show won't disappoint. Let you know what I think. Oh and Wednesday it's all about Batman The Dark Knight Rises. Again, I cannot wait!
Oh and thanks to all my international radio show listeners for all their tweets. Appreciated. And yes...that is me in the Katy Perry movie! Have you seen it yet?
Oh and I've just driven past an Olympic lane. So we're getting close then. Heard some interesting rumours about the opening ceremony yesterday...say no more!
