Paul McCartney "Sam Smith And Ed Sheeran Are Just Fabulous"

Sir Paul McCartney has been telling me about his plans for 2015.

The music icon surprised fans on new year's day, with the release of his collaboration with Kanye West, "Only One" on iTunes, which immediately hit No.1 on the worldwide chart.

But fans can also expect to hear duet with a female singer sometime this year, as Sir Paul plans to record the soundtrack to the forthcoming animation film "High In The Clouds" an adaptation of his most recent children's book.

Before Christmas, Sir Paul spoke to me about the recording of his brilliant single "Hope" which features on the best selling game "Destiny" marking the first time that the music legend has written for a computer game. The former Beatle told me "These things have bigger budgets than a lot of movies. So I knew it would be on a ridiculously epic scale and as soon as I they showed me the concept drawings and it was very good so I thought yeah, I could get involved with that. And it was great to work with Giles Martin again."

And back in 1973, Sir Paul famously composed the theme to that year's Bond film, Live and Let Die. One of the greatest film themes ever. But with new 007 picture "Spectre" scheduled for release this year, I had to ask Sir Paul about his thoughts on the Bond theme and the rumour that Sam Smith has been asked to record the song..?

"My advice would be just enjoy it. Sam Smith would be great, he's fabulous. That's the thing; people sort of moan about music these days but there's some really good stuff coming up and really great vocalists. You've got Sam and Ed Sheeran. I think Ed's amazing. We had the Grammys Beatles 50th Anniversary show last year and he sang In My Life just beautifully. These guys are great singers and there a lot of great girl singers around. So yes I love them. But I don't know who's going to do the Bond theme but if it was Sam Smith I'd think he'd make a hell of job at it."

And with the like of Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran paying tribute to Paul, I wondered how he deals with that level of praise and acclaim?

"I know what I've done but I don't sit around counting it up. But if ever I do think about it, I think wow there's the early Beatles stuff, then wow the later stuff and then Wings and Band on the Run so once I start to amass it all I do start to think, wow that's really impressive. But as I'm a working musician, you don't really spend much time on that. So it is amazing if someone turns out to be a fan. But my amazo of the year was Bob Dylan doing my song on "The Art of McCartney" album. He sings "Things We Said Today" and it's like hey, it's Bobby singing one of my songs! I think it's a great version. So yes, the fact that people that I admire, admire me, is very flattering. I love it yeah."

And in terms of 2015, look out for Sir Paul's contribution to a forthcoming animated feature film and some more tour dates. "This animation film is interesting..it gets my imagination going and fires me up. I'm recording one of the songs in the new year with a girl singer and so that's going to be great and upwards and onwards.."

Always an honour to sit down and talk to Sir Paul. Have a listen to my interview here.
